I was having such an experience at my workplace also when our one of the Commissioner, obsessed to attain his self declared office goals so much so that it was putting unnecessary pressure on us and our working. He used to declare daily objectives and goals and used to provide them to his subordinates, with strict directions to achieve the same and in case of failure, he used to say very harsh words to the officers at the day's end. However, no clear strategy was put on place and never discussed. Daily meetings were carried out for the achievement and also, he used to telephone the officers and ask about the same at any given time. This was hampering regular daily work and due to no clear strategy, everybody was in confusion and in fear. Initially, the officers used to strive hard to achieve the daily goals decided by the Commissioner and also achieved the same to some extent, but as the days passed by, it came to the notice of the officers that while focusing on their goals, they were missing other important work which really needed their attention and they were further got firing from the Commissioner for not attending to the same. All the officers were in great tension and feared for the backlash for missing the important work.

To cope with this, all the officers held a meeting among themselves and decided that nobody will abide by the orders of the Commissioner from there onwards. All the officers stood firm against the Commissioner and used to cross him for all his shouting and arrogance. Further, they told him that they will work on the goals after formulation of a proper strategy only. They used to give equal time to their regular daily work and goals. This brought the balance in their working style and increased their efficiency and achieved good goals than before.
