The subtitles transcript:

Nick: locate pre-registration form application on the Q drive. Double click the icon and begin the intranet pre-registration process. Once the file is opened, be sure to fill in all required fields. Next, located the file menu at the top of the navigation bar. Select upload to submit form for processing. Be sure to also create a .pdf. Print one copy and file in the patient’s portfolio. Did that actually just say Q drive and create a .pdf in one breath? What the heck is a Q drive anyways? Is that like when you were out on the town late and you want your wife to drive and say, “Hey, here’s the keys? Q drive?”

Co-worker: I see you continue to lovingly embrace the new office computer system, hey nick?

Nick: I swear I’ve read this manual cover to cover twice. I’ve even done the tutorial, yet I still seem to be the only person in the office that’s threatening to Louisville Slugger.

Co-worker: Oh, come on now, nick. It’s not that bad.

Nick: Oh, sure. Side with the computer instead of me. See if I care. I just don’t see why we need to learn this new computer system when we have this trusty paper-and-pen system that’s worked so well. Goodbye, old friends.

Co-worker: oh, the new computer system completely streamlines the whole procedure by eliminating like three extra steps in the middle. You know, from a customer service standpoint, I know it makes a difference. I can turn patients in and out of here in half the time that it used to take me. You know, I’d say my productivity’s up 50 percent across the board since we got this new system.

Nick: well, that’s just dandy. I would say that my cursing at the computer is up 60 percent. The gnashing of my teeth is up at least 40 percent, so from a customer service standpoint for me, I would say that things have taken a decided downturn.

Co-worker: here, let me show you the pre-registration application one more time, all right? Now, you can create multiple forms by selecting this template here. Then when you’re finished with the report, you save it as a .pdf by clicking here, and then you submit it by double clicking here.

Nick: brain overload. Forget it. I’m sticking with my trusty friends – pen and paper. They haven’t let me down yet.

Co-worker: yeah, suit yourself, but I’m always here to help if you need it, not to mention if you were using the new system at the end of the day last Friday, you could have finished your end-of-the-month reports in half the time that it took you. Then you wouldn’t have missed out on heading over to the wooden show for 25-cent wings with the rest of the office.

Nick: big whoop. Wings give me the heartburn anyways.

Co-worker: fine. Next year. I’’ have your job.

Nick: what was that?

Co-worker: nice job.

Explanation / Answer

answr

1) technology is changing the work of employees by computerised system which will ease the work and reduce paper works and time wastage. Employees were and still some of them like Nick is supporting manual paper and pen work, but, co worker knows what the implemented technological advancements can do. For example, computer system completely streamlines the whole procedure by eliminating like three extra steps in the middle. Multiple forms can be created easily, and productivity increases by 50 percent with the system. It facilitate report completion of a whole month in less than half time.

2) employees resist change because they are fearful and unknown to the technology, and they don't know the methods to Operate and use new technological implementation. They are used to their own and paper work they feel complications when they are asked to change it and switch to computer system. These are valid concerns because, every changes also give rise to resistance, employees do fear of the unknown things and changes their fear, anxiety make them feel unsecured hence make them resist the changes.

3) organisation might have prepared all employees by providing them with training to show the practicalities of the new computer system, and make them familiar with it. There should have been some classroom training which shows the employees how work is done on the system what techniques and methods are used how fast they can learn it. Management need to communicate the change and it's benefits to the employees as well as to the organisation so that employees will understand why the change is being brought. They are needed to be involved and facilitated to help them accept and adjust the change.
