Question
Increasingly over the past several years, individuals and companies have embraced cloud computing as an alternative to traditional computing solutions. There are others that resist the temptations of reduced cost and scalability advantages due to actual shortcomings or perceived concerns. Imagine you were charged with explaining to a group of coworkers or non-IT professionals what cloud computing is and what services cloud computing provides? Which cloud computing model allows the client to run software without purchasing servers, data center space, or network equipment? What is the difference between IaaS and PaaS? What two implementations are available for SaaS? Explore the Internet and respond to the above questions accordingly in a new discussion posting. Your posting must be at least two complete paragraphs in length, and include at least two references to online sources that influenced your opinion. All writing and citations must be APA formatted.
Explanation / Answer
Cloud Computing:- It is a technique via which we can use all sorts of software and hardware resources that are not available to us at a cheaper price than buying the same and avoiding the porblem of managing and setting up all the configuration , at which we want the system to work.It is very similar to how , when we want to go from some place to another , we hire a cab. In this case cab provides us with the resources of travelling , cloud computing is one a same idea. In case of cloud computing , the varity of resources increase rapidy and we can hire all sorts of resources for the time period we want to use and pay a small sum for it.
When starting a new small business or project , its best to use cloud services as they make life easy talking care of the boring stuff and management of resources themselves and we just focus on our product.
There are three main types of services provided by cloud service providers:-
Saas :- Software as a service (SaaS)
PaaS :- Platform as a service (PaaS)
IaaS :- Infrastructure as a service (IaaS)
IaaS allowes us to run software as it provides all sort of infrastructure of running the software , keeping all the things up to date automatically.
The main difference between IaaS and PaaS is that in case of PaaS , you get a operating environment , like DotNet , Java , etc pre installed where is case of IaaS , its just some hardware and plugged power cables and you have to download whatever you wanna use.
SaaS main points:-
Can start using innovative business, and other purpose apps rapidy and from the word go.
Helps in very fast product development with all sorts of pre build tools.
No possibility of loss of data , as it is on cloud and can be accessed from anywhere using porper credeintials.
