Question
In this Unit let’s discuss the function of waiting lines. A good analogy is any line you may be standing or sitting in everyday life, waiting to be served in one form or another. The science behind this process can be complex but the basics are fairly easy to understand. Discuss the difference between single or multiple service channels the affect of different populations (infinite, finite) and its purpose.
Note: The subject is Sysytems Engineering and Analysis but is not listed so I chose Operations Management.
Explanation / Answer
Solution: -
The main important feature of the service channel in the domain of waiting line system is nothing but the service time. It is assumed to be the exponential distribution when the services are provided to a single customer and it is considered as independent. For example, if time taken to serve one customer is exactly 10 mins, the in an hour it can only serve 6 customers. When one service is completed, the client exits the system and again return back to the population.
Single Service Channel: -
P0 = 1 – (lambda/mu) (this is the equation for ideal system)
Multiple Service Channel: -
