Could I get some help with this? This is for my Computer Ethics course. I’ve already answered these questions, I just want second opinions. I’m not 100% sure my responses will get me a good grade since my professor is a tough grader. Thanks! Write short descriptive answer to the following questions 1. Student is expected to describe two types of contents on the Internet together with a justification why there should be appropriate censorship to these contents on the Internet.] 6 points] 3. Various orgamizations and members of Congress suges equiring Web sites that contain material "harmful to minors" to move to a new domain with extension "xxx". Give (with justification) a reason in favor, and a reason against such a proposal [5 points]Explanation / Answer
A) Internet has emerged as the new medium of news in past five years, after the burst of smartphones and cheap internet rates. Previous mediums of news, such as newspapers and television found their shine fading away in the boom of app based news service providers. And Internet has come to play a major part in this revolution, its outreach over the entire globe has turned intself into an asset of immense power. Due to internet, we have now more than just one version of news, and we also have a place where we can put our words out.
One platform is twitter, where it is possible to tweet to the president, and get a reply. Not just for complaining, but to seek justice, or help, or whatever possibilities of rightful connections there can be, internet as emerged as global upfront of communication of thoughts, ideas and informations.
Second factor is small scale business and their hold over social media. Fashion designers, photographers, models, astrologers, everyone is selling without any fully functional website, and the credit goes to the smartphones, and their oxygen is the internet. People can trade over generalized marketplaces across the globe, and all is done in a matter of clicks. That was not possible through newspaper advertising or television ads, for their cost was too much and unafforbale by small businessmen. Mass advertising at almost free price compared to TVs made internet the new arcade of trade and economy.
Third point is the freedom of sharing thoughts and ideas. Before the internet, blogs did not exist, and published novels and research papers were a confinement of the few. Not everybody had a say in everyday affairs of the state, nation, or world. Internet provided a platform to people to share their creativity through videos and pictures and blog articles and infographics. The world built a free encyclopedia over the web, and this could never have been possible without the web.
B) Two types of content that should be banned from the web are listed below.
Fake News websites- Many websites and blogs have flooded the internet, mostly the social media such as facebook, youtube and instagram. Curated news, spicy trolls, vulgar pictures to gather attention, and all because of advertising and money making. These websites should be swept off the web with mos urgency.
Simulation games- In recent years, Internet has flooded with web based simulation games that are played with other players in a story mode. These games are rich in violence and extremism, and threaten peace and tranquility of minds of their players. These games affect not just physical but mental hea;th as well, and no tolerance should be shown in letting these games continue runing over web
C) Marking all websites harmful to minors as .xxx will be a great move toward safety of children over the web. This way, we can block all forms of malicious content such as violence, adult games and videos, extremism and anonymous chat rooms. It would wipe clean the web into two broad parts- safe for children and unsafe for children.
But this strategy wont be effective in the long run, because children are mostly associated with social media websites. And content on social media is a massive chunk to be classified as safe for not just children but even adults. And this rule will also violate the unique property of the web of being impartial to any form of content, person, or location in any way.
