Question
Please solve the following questions with explanations, thanks Car Engine Assembly Process Structure B1 FG Assembly 1 hourl4 units Inspection 1 hour / 3 units Works 6 hrs Works? hrs Assuming all the engines that are assembled in a day should be inspected on the same day, ansv the following: What is the daily flow rate? How long should inspection work? What is the maximum number of engines waiting in B1? What is the average time that the engines spend in B1? What is the average flow time? What is the average inventory in the process?Explanation / Answer
1. What is daily flow rate ?
Daily flow will be depend upon bottle neck station. Our bottleneck station is Inspection stage. So flow rate will depend upon total production of this stage in 1 day. inspection need to work 8 hour when assembly work for 6 hour.
Flow rate= total production of bottleneck stage per hour * No of working hour
3*8 = 24 nos.
2. How long should inspection work ?
Inspection should work 8 hour as it is defined as bottleneck stage.
3. what is the maximum number of engines waiting at B1 ?
Maximum number of engines will be calculated when assembly stops working. Assembly should produce the total number which can be produce by inspection in a day.
Inspection work in 8 hour = Assembly total work
3 unit/ hour *8 hour = 4 units / hour * No. of hour by assembly
No. of hour by assembly= 24/4 =6
So after finish of 6th hour, maximum no. of waiting at inspection.
4. What is the average time spend in B1 ?
It takes 1 hour to clear 3 engines. So it will take 20 mint spend time to clear 1 engine.
5. What is the average flow time ?
Average Flow time= total Time Taken/ No of quantity processed
(8hour +6 hours)/ 24
= 14 hours/24
= 14*60 mint. / 24
= 840/48 = 35 mint
6 What is the average inventory in process.
Average inventory= total inventory/ No. of process
= 24/2 = 12 nos. each station.
