Identify instances where BP has failed to act ethically and failed to show its interest in a key stakeholder from a strategy/policy perspective. (Note: BP's gross negligence in the Gulf of Mexico Disaster is an excellent example of a failure of ethics and corporate social responsibility.)
What Bible verses can be used to help address the answer to the question above and how does the Christian worldview relate to the ethical social issue? (Note: clearly and concisely state at least three scripture references from the Old and/or New Testament (must include the name, chapter, and verse).
Explanation / Answer
BP has failed to act ethically and shown interest in their profit earning strategy over the environmental responsibility. One big example of the same is seen in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill disaster. It was revealed that the spill was caused by the malfunctioning of the equipment that was designed to prevent the blowout. The rig workers who were the eyewitness of the incident claimed that BP knew about this equipment flaw from much before. Many people and animals died in this disaster Even if they were not aware of the malfunction from before they were responsible for the loss caused due to the blowout and failed to work ethically as per the stakeholder theory.
Another instance of the ignorance of BP's ethical and stakeholder theory is the explosion in its refinery in Texas which killed and injured hundreds of people. It was found out that the accident took place due to the organizational and safety deficiencies. Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska is also an example of the same subject. The Deepwater Horizon drill rig explosion is another example where BP put the drilling costs ahead of the safety measures to save time and money.
