A secretary who has worked for your corporation for fifteen years is involved in a car accident in which she permanently loses the use of her right hand. Thus, she can no longer effectively type, file, or perform many of the other functions that she previously had performed and that are included in her job description. Your corporation has a very tight budget and does not have sufficient funds to pay for an additional secretary without reallocating budget items. The injured secretary has been very loyal to your corporation, and you have been very satisfied with her work and dedication. She wants to stay at her job. Moreover, she does not believe that she could find other employment at this time.

The company should retain the secretary, the reasons provided below:

1. Ethically an organization has to work with humanity and just cannot fire or lay off an employee due to unexpected situations.

2. The Secretary has been working for fifteen years and by now she would have thoroughly have an understand about the company and other job profiles too.

3. Even though she cannot perform the secretary job and the company is restricted due to tight budget, they can place her in a different department and make this secretary position open for hiring.

4. The different department may be a job profiles which may not need only typing, filling etc, but use her knowledge to perform other tasks. Since she may be well versed with the company policies, works etc.

5. Retention plays a major role in the organization to reward their employees. The Secretary has served for longer in the organization, as a reward and award the company should retain the secretary so that the other employees would get motivated to work with the company longer.

6. By doing this she may benefit have a job, the company can retain her loyalty and increase the brand name, and also have an open position to hire for secretary opening.

7. The company has high responsibility to care on their employees because the employees had contributed high to the company towards growth and development. The Secretary contributions had impact towards the profit of the company so that the company should have a concern on retain her and not to fire or lay off her from the organization.
