Question
This can be a very controversial topic and is one that should solicit strong opinions. Have you ever thought about this? My guess is the average consumer has not, should we only blame the marketing people? Do consumers have a free will to decide what they can afford to purchase? If minorities are not targeted, would they feel like they have not been given the same opportunity to know about products as the rest of society?
Respond to the following:
• In your opinion when marketers use their knowledge of specific target markets, such as minorities, do they prey upon their weaknesses and possible lack of information and exploit them for their gain? Please support your answer with relevant examples.
Explanation / Answer
Possibly on the past the markets took advantage of any kind of lack of information when their target market were the minorities but I think that is changed now because even though someone could be identify as part of minorities this person has a width access to information that on the past he didn’t have, internet, smart phones, adds on TV, radio, sings on the streets are fount of information for any one.
If you are a market and have selected a product destined to minorities, they still have to pay it, they need to have some source of access to capital in order to complete the purchase, and it is possible they also have access to information making it difficult to markets to exploit such weaknesses they used to have in the past.
