Principles of Design

The arrangement of art elements to create stability in work. It can be asymmetrical or informal, and, symmetrical or formal.

The main message is established as the focal point. It has larger shapes or text. The secondary message may be communicated in the comment area.

Two design elements are important to each other and add emphasis. It organizes the information. For instance, thick and thin; black & white

Consistency for branding, cohesion, and, to strengthen the overall look.

Similar or related elements are grouped together; it clusters the elements and declutters the design

It gives stability and form to distribute elements; even spacing makes it appear professional and attractive

Dictates the mood of a design; Green is for the non-profits and the environment, red is for emotions like anger; blue is passive and calming; yellow is for a sensation of happiness

Space left blank, brings in simplicity

Combining art elements to stress the differences; creates one or more centres of interest
