Raul was concerned because several other city projects depended on successful completion of the construechi of the city community center. With the community center project schedule slipping, all other dependent projects would be delayed. Upon further investigation, Raul found that inspector John did not approve the project because he found project documentation incorrect and incomplete, and he had sent the project detailed instructions on how to prepare and submit the project documents for approval. Raul invited his project core team members, the general contractor, city manager, site manager, and few other k ey stakeholders

Explanation / Answer

1.The stakeholders are the core team members of the project, general contractor, city manager and site manager and Raul Chavez, the project manager is controlling the stakeholder engagements.

2. The project constraints that have been included in this case for impact assessment are:

- Impact to scope- The scope of work is something that is decided and distributed to the workers before the project work is initiated. Additional jobs by implementing another plan will add to the scope of work which will make it difficult to dedicate and function.

- impact to schedule- A certain schedule with deadlines is predecided for the project. What scope of work will be completed in what time is ascertained in the schedule. Implementing a plan will add days and hours to the due date hence extending the completion date of the project.

- impact to cost- with an addition of a plan the overall cost of project will increase as additonal work will have to be done for which extra resources will be required and money will have to be spend on it. Use of manpower and machineries for extra time will increase the cost.

3. The tools for stakeholder engagement control are:

- project information management systems

- subject matter expert advice

- collaboration meetings

The tool used by Raul in this case is subject matter expert advice wherein he consulted with Tim Allen who had completed a similar type of project with same consequences where the inspection had to be done a second time due to incompletion. Tim in collaboration with the project team developed a plan which could be implied to attain the approval on the inspection project.

4. The lessons learnt from this case is that with a proper and effective control on stakeholders engagment and applying proper tools for the engagement of the stakeholders for completion of a project can lead to the success of the task. Identifying the tools that can be used in the scenario present and using the tools in the most appropriate way is the task of the project manager who controls the engagement of stakeholders. Understanding to what extent the stakeholders can participate in the project to bring out effective results is important.
