Pizza gate conspiracy which actually started on Twitter was in fact considered as the most specific example of disinformation. The story falsely alleged that sexually abused children were hidden at Comet Ping Pong Washington D.C. pizza parlor and Hillary Clinton was actually aware of the sex ring.
Furthermore for people it appeared so realistic that an individual named Edgar Welch from North Carolina arrived at the capital city with an assault weapon to personally look for those abused kids. However on being arrested by police Welch said online he had read that Comet restaurant was into harboring child sex slaves and actually he wanted to see if they were there.
False information in public domain is very dangerous because of its ability to affect public opinion. Furthermore such situations could facilitate cultivating discriminatory and inflammatory ideas which in fact can enter in public discourse where it could be treated as fact. Once embedded such ideas could then be used to create discrimination, unfairness and justify violence.
Thus it’s very crucial and significant news industry consistently keep focusing on high-quality journalism which indeed could facilitate build effective trust and attract greater audiences. However the most encouraging development is that news organization indeed has been able to effectively experience major gains in readership and viewership over the last couple of years.
