Explanation / Answer

Weight :

Mean = 7 + 4+ 10 / 3 = 8

To calculate Variance

So, for three weights

7 - 8 = -1 and then squaring gets to 1

4 - 8 = -4 and then squaring gets to 16

14 - 8 = 6 and then squaring gets to 36

Variance = 1 + 16 + 36 / 3 = 17.6

Standard Deviation = Square root of variance

So, standard deviations would be 1, 4 and 6 respectively.

Height:

Mean = 22 +12 + 30 /3 = 21.33

Variance

22 - 21.33 = 0.77 and then squaring gets to 0.59

12 - 21.33 = - 9.3 and then squaring gets to 86.49

30 - 21.33 = 8.67 and then squaring gets to 75.16

Standard deviation is square root of variance

So, the SD of heights would be 0.77, 9.3 and 8.67 respectively.
