Describe both the formal and informal communication methods within the organization. Address whether or not the organization uses effective communication techniques. Evaluate the role culture plays in both the formal and informal methods of communication. Make recommendations for improvement for both informal and formal communications.   Describe how the organization uses teams. Evaluate the effectiveness of the use of teams based on the model of team effectiveness described by Daft.

Explanation / Answer

Formal communication involves formal communication channels within the organization. Formal communication is majorly used by Higher management and during meetings to interact with the employees or within the same grade employees during meetings. It flows vertically across the organization.

Informal communication methods are mainly used by employees outside the formal formal communication structure of the company. Such communications increase the bond within the team and is important from a team perspective. However such informal communications should maintain the decorum of the office culture.

Culture plays an important role in both formal and informal communication. Corporate culture usually involves putting most communications in writting esp. policies, standards, rules and any communication that should be put down in writting keeping in mind the company's formats and standards.

Recommendation is that Formal communication should be used when interacting with higher management and with your seniors.

The same should be maintained while communicating with juniors so that they can learn from your behaviour.

However, informal comminucation is important to make a person feel relaxed and open up. So mix between and formal and informal communication is important.
