Introduction

Management:

What exactly is Management? If you see, Management as a word, if divided, comprises of 3 parts; 'Manage', 'Men' and at last 't'. This defines management as managing men tactfully.

Management is nothing but the organization and coordination of the activities of a business in order to achieve defined objectives. Management is often included as a factor of production along with a firm's machines, materials, and money. According to the management guru Peter Drucker (1909-2005), the basic task of management includes both terms, marketing and innovation. Practice of modern management originates from the 16th century study of low-efficiency and failures of certain enterprises, conducted by the Sir Thomas More, a former English statesman (1478-1535). Management consists of the interlocking functions of creating corporate policy and organizing, planning, controlling, and directing an organization's resources in order to achieve the objectives of that policy stated by the company.

The size of management can range from one person in a small organization to hundreds or thousands of managers in multinational companies aboard. In large organizations and firms, the board of directors defines the policy which is then carried out by the chief executive officer, or CEO. Some people agree that in order to evaluate a company's current and future worth, the most important factors are the quality and experience of the managers they have.

Introduction:

Music:

Now, Music, in the simplest sense, means a pattern of sounds made by musical instruments, voices, or computers, or a combination of these, intended to give pleasure to people listening to it. Music as a form of art has influenced deeply to the past and current generations and is going to be continued ahead too.

But why is Music so influential? Why is music important? Music participation indeed provides a unique opportunity for literacy preparation. Whether the children are singing, playing, or listening, teachers direct them to listen and hear in new ways which exercises their aural discrimination. Playing instruments and adding movement to the lessons teaches children about sequential learning which is essential in reading comprehension and slowly this educative part plays a pivotal role ahead.

Plato once said "music is a more potent instrument than any other for education”. today, you will find many teachers of young children who would agree with him. Recent research has found that music uses both sides of the brain, a fact that makes it valuable in all areas of progressive development. Music affects the growth of a child’s brain academically, emotionally, physically and spiritually, which is of indeed a great importance.

Music is academic. For some people, this is one of the primary reason for providing music lessons to their children. A recent study from the University of California found that music trains the brain for higher forms of thinking. Statistically speaking, second graders who were given music lessons scored 27% higher on proportional math and fractions tests than children who received no special instruction. Research indicates that musical training permanently wires a young mind of a human for enhanced performance.

Music is physical, too. Music can be described as a sport also. Learning to sing and keep rhythm develops effective coordination. The air and wind power necessary to blow a flute, trumpet or saxophone promotes a healthy body living.

Music is emotional. Music is an art form and we all are emotional beings and every child requires an artistic outlet. Music may be your child’s vehicle of expression.

Music is for life. Most people can’t play soccer, or football at 70 or 80 years of age but they surely can sing. And they can play piano or some other instrument in any given space. Music is a gift you can give your child that will last their entire lives surely.

Hip-Hop:

Hip hop is a music genre developed in the United States by inner-city African Americans in the 1970s which consists of a stylized rhythmic music that mainly accompanies rapping, a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted. It developed as part of hip hop culture, a subculture defined by four key stylistic elements: MCing/rapping, DJing/scratching with turntables, break dancing, and also graffiti writing. Other elements include sampling beats or bass lines from records (or synthesized beats and sounds), and rhythmic beatboxing too.

Hip-hop has been described by many as one of the most far-reaching cultural movements of the past three decades. For many, It’s more like a sonic jackhammer, a visual eyesore, and form of conceptual nuisance. Critics often call hip-hop materialistic, misogynistic, homophobic, racist, vulgar and too violent.

“A good deal of hip hop speaks and has always spoken openly and in depth about aspects of black urban poverty, particularly the grip that street culture has on many young people” Tricia Rose wrote this in her seminal book ‘The Hip Hop Wars’. Hip-hop gives a ground-level of what it might mean to live under what are nearly warlike conditions in communities that face a myriad of daunting circumstances. Sometimes, rappers’ lyrics really do offer gripping tales of loss, sorrow, exploitation, rage, confinement, hopelessness, and despair about conditions that are denied in the larger society. It is important to admit that these powerful stories far too often uncritically reflect attitudes and beliefs that many would consider destructive to achieving a socially just environment. But it is also true that society at large only sporadically pays attention to the extraordinarily despair-producing conditions in which young black poor youth attempt to survive.”

It’s important to remember that hip-hop is not just about the music. It’s a unique era of culture where fashion, art, music and language became deeply pitted with metaphors that became consistent, ubiquitous and global spreading definite meaning. Hip-hop is unplanned, but a reflection of shared truths in communities ranging from the Favelas of Rio de Janeiro to the council estates of England, ghettos of New York, slums of Ghana and the towers of Shanghai and continues ahead This is a mode of expression, a rebellion, communicated through the hijacking and transformation of elements of cultures, creating something new, owned by the generation from who it was manifested.

Relation, Relevance of Hip-Hop and Management.

Hip-hop and management have many things that correlate and are of similar texture.

Hip hop helps in spreading messages. This proves that Hip-Hop is a vital tool for communication for many people. Using Hip-hop, many people communicate to the outside world. Where mere words can’t reach, Hip-Hop, with a proper blend of meaning, music and metaphor shows far reaching effects.

Similarly, in Management, one of the most important concept is Communication. Without efficient and effective communication, proper management decisions fail to the core.

Following are some of the Management theories and its relevance towards Hip-Hop.

Situational Leadership by Blanchard and Hersey: Situational leadership is a leadership style that has been developed and studied by Kenneth Blanchard and Paul Hersey. Situational leadership refers to when the leader or manager of an organization must adjust or modify his style to fit the development level of the followers he is trying to influence. With situational leadership, it is up to the leader to change his style and not the follower to adapt to the leader’s style. In situational leadership, the style may change continually to meet the needs of others in the organization based on the current situation, keeping the future situation in the mind that could arise ahead.

Similarly, in Hip-Hop, most of the times, rappers, sometimes even metaphorically, relate the worse situations and how they fought them. They think about how to form, modify and write the rap so that their audience would actually relate. Which music to apply in the background so that it influences the audiences. They try to be the leader among the other forms of music and community os that people listen to their material and get influenced positively.

Disruptive innovation by Clayton M. Christensen: It means an innovation that creates a new market and value network and eventually disrupts an existing market and value network, displacing established market-leading firms, products, and alliances.

Hip-hop tries to be different then the regular genres of music. It tries to reflect the truth of the society, unlike many other forms which are made up for the audiences wrongly indicating life notionally. Hip-Hop actually tries to disrupt the fake vibes and spread truth around by new and innovative lyrics, raps, graffiti, etc.

These are two of the management theories and how Hip hop is related to them.

Conclusion

Management and Hip-hop are thus related in some way or the other. Management is of grave importance in businesses. Similarly, Hip hop is of great importance in life and society. Management sets example, to which other people relate and get influenced. Similarly, hip hop creates great meaning so that people related and gets influenced. There are so many such instances which prove their correlation.

Thus, to conclude, these above patches are to show relation between Management theories and Hip Hop
