This chapter has asked in several ways whether the social responsibility of the companies you patronize has ever made any difference to your purchasing decisions. Will it make any difference in the future as a result of what you have learned? Consider your last three largest purchases. Go to the websites of the companies that manufacture the products you bought and explore those firms’ social responsibility efforts. Are they more or less than what you expected? Do your findings make a difference to you in terms of how you feel about these firms your purchases and/or the amount of money you spent on these items?

Answer :
We all know that , companies are doing business in Globalized scenario. Though there profile is domestic or international still all that companies are associated with the phenomena of Globalization.
Now its period of Green Culture. Every company is trying to fit Social responsibility concept in their organizations strategy , vision ,mission, Goals , Objectives.
Because if they want to implement the social responsibility concept its has to be considered in organizations each & every department.
Now in organizations there are various departments like
Marketing , Human Resources , Productions , Supply Chain , Quality , Procurement etc
These all departments are working on the concept of Social responsibility . Procurement is one of that .
Following are the activities which are directly/ indirectly related with procurement.
1) Vendor Development : As a purchase head we can recommended instruct to all vendors to follow all the social responsibility concerns. Those who are not following for them we will maintain a transitions.
2) Transportation : Transportation are very crucial part of procurement system .They ar directly generating air pollution . So as a Purchase Manager its responsibility to instruct them to use good condition vehicles . Vendors , contractors uses old model vehicle which generates pollution that is not expected.
3) Logistics : Follow all the rules & regulation of Logistics management.
4) Packaging & Handling : For packaging use a natural material l which will not affect the natures.
5) Safety System : Follow all the safety system for procurement transactions.
6) Utilization of Resources : Before placing a order ensure the correct requirement of resources . If there is no requirement don't release orders.
6) Make a list of the items which are generating more pollution & substitute them withe items if possible..
