Question

Participate in a discussion of organizational metaphors. According to dictionary.com, a metaphor is "a figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to something to which it is not literally applicably in order to suggest a resemblance". It's basically a simile (e.g., life is like a box of chocolates) but without the words "like" or "as". Now that the mini-grammar lesson is over, here are the details on this form post.

Develop your own organizational metaphor for where you work. For example, previous responders have said things like: a hungry bear, a bad mechanic, an adolescent, a NASCAR race. Explain your metaphor in a paragraph or so. In addition, describe how holding this metaphorical view has impacted your motivation, satisfaction, and/or performance at the organization. If you are not employed (or would rather not comment on your organization), use the university instead. Make sure to read other's posts (who knows - it might be cathartic to do so), since all entries must be unique.I encourage you to have some fun with this!
