A merit pay program refers to a pay system that rewards workforce of an organization according to their job performance. Workforce can earn merit increase in their salary compensation based on their productivity level or work of performance. This types of pay system used by private profit business sectors.
Effective and well- designed performance appraisal has direct link with merit pay programs. Merit pay program are tightened to specific performance appraisal techniques. A effective merit pay program depends on leadership appraisals approaches. There are four types of performance appraisal programs explained below-
Trait system-
This system evaluates quality of work, appearances, cooperation, leadership, and responsibility of organization’s workforce.
Compensation system-
This system evaluates productivity and performances of different workforce. Employees are considered as poor and better performer.
Behavioral system
This system rates workers on the degree to which they show successful job performance conduct.
