Q 1. Consider the purchase of a can of soda at a convenience store. Describe the various stages in the supply chain and the different flows involved.
Purchasing a soda can through convenience store is the end of a supply chain delivery process. If we look at the different stages in the supply chain it includes raw material suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers and finally the consumers. Once a customer purchases the product, the product moves towards the customer whereas the information and the dollar moves towards the retailers. Here based on this information the retailer places back an order with either wholesaler or the distributor to replenish the stock. Here information moves back to the start of the supply chain and consequently the product moves downwards. The wholesaler and distributors sends the information and dollar value back to the manufacturer who produces back the product and ships it down to the supply chain process.

Can of soda:
Soda and the packaging can has to be processed through various phases of raw material collection/ procurement and supply chain processes. The vendors will give the raw materials and it is feeded to the manufacturing plant for soda. This phase is called Inbound ( where semi fnished, raw or finished goods)comes in. Then it is getting processed and final product is feeded in can in the assembly line. Once the material becomes finished good ( soda), then it is distributed based on the demand of the product ( Outbound). Warehouse or cross docking areas are generally used for distribution towards retailers or distriburs. Last mile connectivity is used via transportation mode. Returns will also will be there for damaged goods ( Reverse logistics or Outbound returns).
Stages in suply chain involved are: Procurement, Manufacturing, Distribution and Returns.
Order fulfilment is done to company for poroduction planning based on the demand generated by customers on the reatilers. Based on the prdictionb requirement manufacturer raise requirement for procuruement of raw materials from suppliers.
