Question

Consider the following system of constant volume (100 L) mixing tanks in series with a recycle as shown. Develop a dynamic model for the concentration of product A in the outlet stream of the two mixing tanks. Initially the concentration of A in both tanks is zero. The inlet flow rate is 100 L/min and recycle flow rate is 50 L/min and the inlet concentration is 1 mol/L. After the initial system has reached steady state, the inlet flowrate is change to 90L/min, the recycle flowrate to 45 L/min and the inlet concentration to 1.2 mol/L. Use your dynamic model in MATLAB to show the change in composition in each tank for a span of 10 mins.

Explanation / Answer

accumulation = in -out + generation

dU/dt = VpCv dT/dt H = Fp Cp (T-Tref)

For this liquid system

Cp = Cv
