Question

Choose the compound below that contains at least one polar covalent bond, but is nonpolar A. HCN B. CF_4 C. SeBr_4 D. E. Both B and C are nonpolar and contain a polar covalent bond. An element E has the electron configuration [Ar] 4s^2 3d 4p^2. The formula for the fluoride of E is most likely: A. EF_14 B. EF_4 C. EF D. EF_6 E. EF_8 Nitrogen has five valence electrons. Which arrangement represents correct electronic configuration of N^- ion? List the following atoms in order of increasing first ionization energy: Li, Na, C, O, F. A. Li

Explanation / Answer

Answer to 8 is E. Nitrogen has total of 7 electrons of which 5 are valence elctrons... N^-- has 8 elctrons of which 6 are valence electrons ( means 2 nd shell electrons here). That strikes out options A,B,C. The degenerate orbitals (P orbitals) should be filled with one electron each and then be paired. That eliminates option D.

6 and 7 are blurry... Can't see anything there.. Please provide good image
