Question

Indicate the relationships between low energy, frequency, and wavelength. Then indicate the color of the visible light spectrum that is low energy. Be clear & to the point. Electronic Configurations: a. Give the noble configuration of the iron (II) ion. b. Give the full configuration for chromium. Orbital Diagrams: a. Draw the full orbital diagram for oxygen & indicate if para- or diamagnetic. Circle the valence electrons. Clearly explain what the following quantum numbers describe exactly as given AND indicate the number of electrons described by them. a. n = 4, l = 1, m_l = 0, -1 b. n = 3, l = 0, 2, m_s = 1/2

Explanation / Answer

(5) E = h * Frequency

So, energy and frequency of direcly related.

Frequency = c / wavelength

So, frequency and wave length are inversely related

Energy,E = h c / wave length

So, energy and wave elngth are inversely related.

The visible light covers the seven different colors, namely VIBGYOR.

The wavelength ncreases from Violet to Red color light and in the same direction energy and frequency will decrease.

The visible light having low energy is RED light.

(6) Full electronic configuration of, Fe2+(Z=26) V.S.E.C. is [Ar] 3d6 4s0

Noble gas electronic configuration of Fe2+ is, [Ar] i.e 1s22s22p63s23p6

(7)

O (z=8) E.C is 1s2 / 2s2 2p4

Second shell is valence shell and in this there are two unpaired electrons in p - subshell and thus the oxygen is para magnetic in nature.

(8)

n = 4, l= 1, ml = 0 has the symbol of 4py it has two electrons.

n =4 , l= 1, ml = -1 has the symbol of 4pz and it has two electrons

n = 3 , l= 0 , ms = +1/2 has the symbol of 3s and only one electron has these quantum numbers.

n =3, l = 2, ms = +1/2 has the symbol of 3d and 5 electrons have these quantum numbers.
