Question

Please write it by world 22;Describe stratification in lakes and reservoirs. You can include a drawing to help convey the process. How does stratification change seasonally? How might this influence water chemistry? 29;Describe stratification in estuaries. How is it different from freshwater systems? How does it influence water chemistry? 35;What is the difference between a colloid and suspended sediment? What are some size ranges for the following particles: Colloidal iron oxide Bacteria Virus Silt Clay Sand

Explanation / Answer

22 Lake stratification is the separation of lakes in three layers epilimnion, metalimnion, hypolimnion. Epilimnion:the top of the lake, metalimnion : the middle layer may change the depth throughout the day, hypolimnion : the bottom layer. During hot climate particularly in summer season capacity of water for holding suspended particles inclines because of this the water loses ability to hold dissolved oxygen and the difference in water densities increases so great that nutrients and oxygen can pass from one layer to another.
