tandard 3. Standard reduction potentials are listed for reactions under standard conditio conditions are 1 M concentrations of ions, partial pressures of gasses of 1 bar (approximately 1 atm), and a temperature of 298 K. cell potential to a calculated a. In Part I you were asked to compare your measured was for a galvanic cell standard cell potential. The cell potential you measured you prepared using 0.10 M solutions of Pb2+ and Cu not 1.0 M solutions Explain why the cell potential under these nonstandard conditions should be equal to the standard cell potential for this particular reaction.Explanation / Answer
Ans 3 a)
. The E cell is same as the standard cell potential when the concentration of ions was 1.0 M because if you see at the formula of cell voltage
E cell = Eocell - RT/nF log [Anode] / [ cathode]
the ratio of both the ions , when concentration is 0.1 M = 1
So putting the values in the formula
E cell = Eo cell
Ans 3 b) Now even if you change the temperature to 20o C i.e. 293 K , the cell voltage will remain equal to standard cell potential , because the ratio of concentrations of ions is 1
E cell = Eo cell - ( 8.314 x 293) / (2 x 96500) log 1
E cell = Eo cell
