I really need help with this please! i don't really know how to do it.

Two of the liquids, butanone and 1.butanol, had nearly the same molecular weights, but significantly different Delta t values. Explain the difference in Delta t values of these substances, based on their intermolecular forces. Which of the alcohols studied has: ______ the strongest intermolecular forces of attraction? _______ the weakest intermolecular forces? _____________ Explain using expected trends of decreasing Delta t with increasing molar mass within a chemical series. Which of the ketones studied has: the strongest intermolecular forces of attraction? ______ the weakest intermolecular forces? ______ Explain using expected trends of decreasing Delta t with increasing molar mass a chemical series. Explain why a swimmer feels chilled when getting out of the water during a Santa Ana wind event. (Santa Ana winds are fast moving with very low humidity)

Explanation / Answer

1)

1-butanol can form intermolecular hydrogen bond . but butanone cannot form intermolecular hydrogen bond it can only form dipole -dipole forces . hydrogen bond is powerful than dipole -dipole forces so the the dT is more in 1-butanol compared to ketones.

2)

methanol has the streongest intermolecular forces .

weakest intermolecular forces for 1-butanol .

the molar mass of the substance increases the intermolecular forces strength decreases

3)

acetone strongest intermolecular forces

butanone weakest intermolecular forces

molar mass increases the dipole dipole forces strength also decreases for ketones
