Corrosion Engineering Two steels immersed in dilute deaerated hydrochloric acid corrode at different rates. When they are arranged as a cell, a small difference is observed between them. Which is anode? Illustrate by a polarization diagram. Corrosion Engineering Two steels immersed in dilute deaerated hydrochloric acid corrode at different rates. When they are arranged as a cell, a small difference is observed between them. Which is anode? Illustrate by a polarization diagram. Corrosion EngineeringExplanation / Answer
Two steep rodes corrode at different rates.
The rod which shows greater rate of corrosion is acting as an anode and gets oxidized or corrode faster than the steel rod which shows lower rate of corrosion. The anode is the electrode where oxidation occurs and the cathode is where reduction occurs. Anode is corrosion enhancement and cathode is reduction of corrosion rate.
