CHEM 1152L Supplemental Lab - Page 10 Post Lab Questions 1. W hat direction does the reaction shift when product is added to a system at equilibrium? 2. Which direction does the reaction shift when reactant is added to a system at equilibrium? Which direction does the reaction shift when a reactant is removed from a system at equilibrium? 3. What direction does the reaction shift when a product is removed from a system at equilibrium? 4. n a system at equilibrium is disturbed, by changing the concentration of product or reactant, a new equilibrium position will be established. If th concentration of products is increased what happens to the value of the equilibrium constant Ke? 5. Whe

Explanation / Answer

Ans 1 :

According to the Le Chatelier's Principle , when the reaction is in equillibrium , any change in the reaction conditions , will shift the reaction in a direction , where the reaction can be re-estabilished.

So here :

1) When the product is added to the system at equillibrium , the reaction shifts in backward or left direction.

2) When the reactant is added to the system at equillibrium , the reaction shifts in forward or right direction.

3) When the reactant is removed from the system at equillibrium , the reaction shifts in backward or left direction.

4) When the product is removed from the system at equillibrium , the reaction shifts in forward or right direction.
