Blood Lactate Threshold test: Produce figures in MS Excel to present the results

ID: 62951 • Letter: B

Question

Blood Lactate Threshold test: Produce figures in MS Excel to present the results of the blood lactate threshold test for this athlete. You should be able to accurately determine the blood lactate thresholds and corresponding heart rates, rating of perceived exertion (RPE) and power output by producing the following four figures: 1) lactate concentration on the y-axis against power on the x-axis; 2) heart rate on the y-axis against power on the x-axis; 3) RPE on the y-axis against power on the x-axis; power on the y-axis over heart rate on the x-axis. Ensure that you highlight the relationship between the two parameters by including a line of best-fit on each figure.

Data Interpretation:

1) Using the blood lactate threshold (OBLA method), prescribe training for an athlete by completing Table 1 (2 points for each blank 30 total).

2) Identify the power output, heart rate and RPE value that corresponds with each of the following blood lactate thresholds using the linear regression equations for heart rate and RPE: Breakpoint, 2.5mM, 1. (Total of 15 points (5 each))

Table 1. Training prescription template for blood lactate threshold training using the OBLA method (Total of 2 points each). First determine your OBLA power output. Then use the linear regression equation to determine the corresponding heart rate and RPE at OBLA. For the remainder of the table calculate the percentages based on your numbers at OBLA. Round to the nearest whole number for ALL answers in the table.
