Question

Phosphoricacid is produced by reaction with

calciumphosphate ore with sulfuric acid. How much

phosphoricacid can one make from exactly one US

ton (2000lbs) of phosphate ore?

a. 574.2 kg

b. 6.33kg

c. 2.52Mg

d. 1263lbs

e. 287.3kg

I know the answer, but I'mnot sure how to get to it.

Explanation / Answer

Ca3(PO4)2 + 3 H2SO4    ---------->   3 CaSO4   +  2 H3PO4 310 g                                                                                 98 g 310 g of   Calcium Phosphate gives 2* 98 g ofAcid 2000 lb ( 907.18 kg) gives  =      2* 98 * 907.18 /310 = 573.57 Kg ofAcid. This is the same as the your option (a). I suppose that if youcalculate the weights of the compounds upto two decimal units youwould get a more accurate answer.
