Question
What is the difference between hot-forming and cold-forming ofmetals with regard to the metal's recrystallizationtemperature? My answer is : Recrystallizationtemperature at which complete recrystallization of a cold workedmetal occurs. Hot forming is above recrystallization tempurature,Cold forming is below crystallization temperature, generally atroom temperature. I'm confised on the topic and Im not sure if I am right.Anyones input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Explanation / Answer
Yes, you're right. Recrystallization temperature is the minimum temperature atwhich complete recrystallization occurs in an annealed cold-workedmetal within a specified time. Hot forging is defined as working a metal above itsrecrystallization temperature. The main advantage of hot forging isthat as the metal is deformed the strain-hardening effects arenegated by the recrystallization process. Cold forging is defined as working a metal below itsrecrystallization temperature, but usually around roomtemperature.
