Question
a) Would it be possible to separate hexane(boiling point: 68.95 oC) from toluene (bp:110.6oC) by simple distillation? Explain youranswer. For this question, I tried to look up the best temperaturedifference for simple distillation, but everywhere gave me adifferent number, so I'm kind of lost...
b) Could benzene (bp:80.1oC) be separated by fractional distillation from pentane(bp 30.07)? Explain your answer.
This one I'm leaning towards yes. I thinkpretty much anything can be separated by fractional distillation? And I'm guessing that solutions that don't obey Raoult's Law woulddefinitely need to use fractional, but how can I tell withoutactually performing the experiment?
Please reply! I'll give Lifesaver for a clear, detailed answer! Thanks :)
