III. Predicting Oxides Consider your results above and predict the formulas test. (note, "did n the acid or base formula, just the oxide. of two acidic oxides and two basic oxides that you did not ot test" includes the T.A. Demo. None of the & elements in the previous chart. Do not give Acidic Basic arou IV. Anhydrides What does the term anhydride mean? puitu As the chart on the previous page demonstrated, the oxide (also known as the anhydride) can be determined from the hydrated acid or base. Remove water from the molecules below and see what remains. (What should you do with an odd number of hydrogens?) Determine the formulas of the anhydrides of the following oxides. HNO HCIO Sr(OH)2 H4SiO4 H2SO4 HNO2 H2104 CsOH HCIO ?? 10 Sn(OH)a H2SO La(OH)3Explanation / Answer
Dear student,
It will rather more logical if i answer 2 part first and then 1 and 3.
(2) Anhydrides are the metal and non-metal oxides which form acid and base (acc. to bronsted concept of acid and base).
(1) As you didnt mention which compound you have been testing the possible acid and base anhydride are:
Acidic anhydride - CrO3 Cromium trioxide, Cl2O dichrorine oxide.
Basic oxide - Al2O3 dialuminium trioxide, Na2O disodium oxide.
(3)
(1) Cl2O , (2) SnO2 , (3) SO2, (4) La2O2 , (5) NO2 , (6) Cl2O2 ,(7) SrO ,(8) SiO2 , (9) SO2 , (10) NO
(11) IO3-, (11) Cs2O.
Just remove H2O and fill out remaining valency by forming a double OR triple bond ( In case of NO). Make sure all the valency should be completly filled up.
If you need explanation write it in the comment section. I will respond you GLADLY and SWIFTLY.
