Tornadoes arise when there is intense thunderstorm called supercell. Mesocyclone comprises of rotating drafts of air in the atmosphere, from 1 to 10 kilometers. With increase in rainfall in the supercell, the mesocyclones are dragged down to the ground. This downdraft is a tornado.
