Density is given by,

Density= Mass/Volume.

Here mass can be measured by weighing the Given sample of metal.

Tu determine the volume of metal (in cm³) we take a graduated cylinder and then dip the metal sample in a given volume of water in the graduated cylinder. The volume of liquid displaced in the graduated cylinder will be the volume of metal sample (in cm³) .

By dividing the Mass (in Kg) to the volume (in cm³) we get the density in Kg/cm³.

Sources of Error : 1) as the volume of the liquid depends upon the temperature so to minimise the error we have to use the corrected volume of liquid at that particular temperature.

2) As density of liquid depends upon temperature so to minimise any Error due to temperature changes perform the experiment at the same temperature.

3) the third possibility of Error is in the volume measurement. To minimise error of this kind take accurate graduated cylinder.
