Explanation / Answer
The story narrates the initial meeting of two friends nickie and terry on a voyage ship from europe to new york where they initially had a chance to interact with each other although they were engaged to someone else. In a matter of time they developed affection for each other and their thoughts also matched along with a complete understanding between them.
Lifespan personality development--Both nickie and terry were married in their personal lives but their ideas did not match with their married partners due to which nickie and terry went on a voyage alone to spend some time and enjoy and coincidently both of them met each other and their views matched and thus this lead to personality social disorder in them where both of them became obsessed with each other leading to extra-marital love and affliction. They bacame attracted to each other and decided to spend time with each other and love each other but in haste the girl met with an accident on the same evening she decided to meet nickie. This led to a tragedy in their life where both of them got separated. After some years after her recovery, nickie again meets terry at a private party. After this event, nickie confirms the address of terry and again meets her. This clearly justifies the remnant memory of nickie, psychological disorder melancholy state of nickie's mind where he follows her till her home. Their he provides her gifts and proposes her and they embrace each other. The girl is also depressed with a sad moronic state of mind in which she has remnant affliction memory of a painting in her room where a man is proposing to a woman and a wheelchair in her room after the accident which made her handicap. Incidently, the pyschological upset man sees that painting and the wheelchair and again starts an illicit love affair with a handicapped woman as in such a scenario a person has less or no priveleges for love or mutual affection.
