The kidneys filter the unwanted substances from the blood and produces urine. All these unwanted substances are removed through kidneys. The urine formation occurs in three main steps: Filtration, Reabsorption and Secretion.

Step 1: Filtration: Filtration occurs when the blood enters the afferent arterioles. From the afferert arterioles the blood enters the glomerulus. In the glomerulus, the filterable substances in the blood like nitrogeneous bases, etc will enter the glomerulus while the unfilterable substances such as cells will enter the efferent arterioles. The filterable components that are present in the glomerulus forms the glomerulus filtrate.

Step2: Reabsorption: As the name signifies, in this process the substances will be reabsorbed in the circulatory system. The liquid substance will enter into the nephrons. The nephrons are highly sensitive to maintain the osmolarity of the fluid. So, the movement of water and ions will accordingly be maintained.

Step3: Secretion: In this process the undesirable substances will be collected in the collecting ducts which then forms the urine. These undesriable substances involve creatinine, drugs, etc. So, urine is a collection of unfilterable substances.
