Question
All life on Earth is based around the Carbon atom. We know of no life form that does not use carbon as the central atom of its molecular structure. However, for many years it has been speculated that silicon based lifeforms would be possible.
Based on your knowledge of chemistry why would you think this could be possible? What characteristics of silicon would you believe allow it to act in place of carbon as the central atom of life? at least 300 words
