Question
Use the following reaction to answer the questions below. Assume that the reaction is at equilibrium before anything is added.
(CoCl_4^{-2}(aq)+6H_2O(l) <--> Co(H_2O)_6^{2+}(aq)+4Cl^{-}(aq))
1. Write Kc for the reaction.
2. For the following questions, answer toward reactants or toward products.
a) If NaCl is added, how with the equilibrium position change?
b) If the reaction is exothermic, what will happen if the reaction vessel is placed in an ice bath?
c) What will happen to the equilibrium position if (Na_2CoCl_4) is added to the solution?
d) What will happen to the equilibrium position if (Ag^{+}) ions are added to the equilibrium?
Thanks for the help, I just really don't understand the process of how to get to the answers.
Explanation / Answer
1)Kc= Products/Reactants ... But you do not include H20. You also make the stoic become exponents.
So for this problem Kc = [Co(H20)6^2+][Cl-]^4 / [CoCl4^2-]
