Question

I need the complete chemical equation for a glow stick, so that you can solve for the coefficents by hand!

H2O2(aq) + C14H10O4(aq) + dye -> C6H2Cl3OH + 2CO2 + excited dye

The above equation is NOT balanced, nor can it be properly balanced without knowing the composition for the dyes.

Can anyone help me find the complete balanced reaction? As in, what is the composition of the dye and the exited dye in the glowstick?

DO NOT GIVE ME THE SAME REACTION I POSTED!!!

Explanation / Answer

The above equation is having pheyl oxalate instead of bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)oxalate in the reactant side but the product given is correct

Hydrogen peroxide +  bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)oxalate + dye -> trichlorophenol + carbon dioxide + excited dye.

dye chemical composition will be the same. the balaced equation is,

H2O2(aq) + C14H4O4Cl6(aq) + dye -> 2C6H2Cl3OH + 2CO2 + excited dye
