Question

Me and my professor got into a big debate or the question. Please make sure you are correct.

Circle the numbers (I, II, and or III) of the structural isomers below:

my professor believes it is I and II. However I believe it is all 3! The question is asking for structural isomers, not circling the functional group isomers! He thinks im a idiot! They all have the same molecular formula at C3H8O.

Explanation / Answer

1 &2 are alcoholic groups,3 is epoxide group.Structural isomerism can have positional isomers also.but since 1 is alcoholic and 3 is epoxide,so those two are functional isomers but not structural isomers.
