Question

News flash:life was just discovered on Mars!scientists have begun to examine Martian life and find that it is cellular, and probabaly driven from an early meteorite-delivered colonization event from the Earth when the planets were both still young .analysis of Martian cell reveals that Mars life uses the same DNA and RNA that we do,but all the enzyme catalysts are also made of nucleic acids, rather than of proteins.you find the Martian equivalent to the Terran protein restriction endonuclease Sau 3ai.propose a reasonable catalytic mechanism for how this Martin enzyme converts its substrate into product? Please give me the answer in details

Explanation / Answer

The above news flash shows that the Martian Enzyme is a restriction Enzyme.A Restriction Enzyme is an enzyme that cleave DNA into fragments at or near specific recognition site within the molecule known restriction site.

The above mentioned enzyme recognize two seperate non palindromic sequences that are inversely oriented. They cut DNA about 20-30 basepairs after the recognition site. These enzyme contain one or more than one sub unit and require AdoMet and ATP co factors for their roles in DNA methylation and restriction.

These enzymes are hetero-oligomeric,multifunctional protein composed of two sub units Res and Mod. The Mod sub unit recognizes the DNA sequence specific for the system and Res is required for restriction, although it has no enzymatic activity on its own.

These enzyme require the presence of two inversely oriented unmethylated reognition sites for restriction to occur. They methylate only one strand of the DNA at N-6 position of adenosyl residue. So newly replicated DNA will have only one strand methylated.
