Question

Choose either the Recent African Origin. Multiregional Continuity, or Assimilation model and describe why you think it is the best model for the evolution of modem Homo Sapiens. Be sure to discuss fossil and genetic evidence in your answer. Try to imagine what humans will be like in 500,000 years. What physical traits will change in modem Homo Sapiens? Why do you think that these changes will occur - what factors will lead to the evolution of new/different traits? Think about primarily physiological changes, but you may also include social or behavioral changes as a supplement. Which of the 'four' ces of evolution will be most important for these changes as the human race continues to evolve and adapt? Watch the BBC documentary titled HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN LIVE ON PLANET EARTH? (with David Attenborough). Provide a list of notes you took while watching the film. Be sure to make your

Explanation / Answer

Answer:

5. Multiregional continuity:

Multiregional theory: Homo erectus left Africa 2 Mya to become Homo sapiens in different parts of the world. The multiregional continuity model contends that after Homo sapiens left Africa and dispersed into other portions of the old world, regional populations evolved into modern humans.

Fossil evidence:

This theory is now discredited by many scholars due to lack of supporting evidence. It was once thought that the fossils records from Australia and Asia could be understood as showing evidence for such regional continuity. The facial structure of the Dali cranium from China.

Genetic evidence:

The most damaging critique of this hypothesis stems from recent genetic research. The multiregional model suggests a shared genetic linkage between the archaic Neanderthals and modern humans. Geneticists have proved this idea to be purely imaginative. Work on the Neander valley skeleton and others have demonstrated that such a link in descent does not exist.

They are the best model of evolution because they are multiregionalists.
