Sedatives and Hypnotics. Frequently we hear in the news of another celebrity dying of an overdose of prescription pain meds; while ordinary people also die regularly of this same addiction. Usually these persons have managed to go to multiple doctors to get multiple prescriptions.
Be creative. What tracking process would you purpose for curbing the abuse of prescription pain meds? Would this be at the physician or pharmacy level,
or both, and why? How would you fund and implement the process? As a medical coder and biller where would you fit into this process?
Explanation / Answer
An online system where the pacient has an online record. If he is prescribed by any doctor, that would be in the system so other doctors won't be able to presscribe more meds.
This could be both, physician level (which is the basis) or also in th pharmacy level.
In the pharmacy level, the cashier should check the med record or previeous prescriptions
This is very difficul to implement. This should be done first locally, then by state. Finally a national system might be aplied.
