An exothermic process releases heat, and causes the temperature of the immediate surroundings to rise. An endothermic process absorbs heat and cools the surroundings

An example of this is making of ice cubes. Here water is being converted into ice. Water has higher temperature and when it converts to ice, it gives out heat as ice has lower temperure.
