Question
How many number of electrons donated by each ligand? PLEASE HELP THANKYOU!
I need help with I), II) and III) for A)
and ONLY III) for B),C), D)
4. Below are some pretty structures and not so pretty names of some metal complexes. For each one of these complexes determine: (I) The oxidation state of the metal center/ion in the complex, (Il) Name the coordination geometry of the complex and draw the complex, if not shown already, and (II) State the number of electrons donated by each ligand. 2+ CO N Cr N CO PAt B) C) ZrCl4 D) PdCla(PPh3)2Explanation / Answer
For A) Structure the oxidation state of the cental metal ion is ZERO (0). the reason is attached ligands( co and ethylenediammine) both are neutral in nature.
ii) the geometry of the complex A is OCTAHEDRAL. two ethylenediammine ligands occupied in square plannar possitions and CO ligands occupied above and below the plane.
iii) ethylenediammine is a bidentate ligand. Each ethylenediammine donate two electron pairs to central metal atom. CO ligand is monodentate. Each CO ligand donate one electron pair.
2) IN B structure Each ligand donate one electron pair(2 electrons) to central metal atom.
in C strucure chlorine is monodentate ligand. Each chlorine donate one electron pair to central metal atom.
in D structure two ligands are there. chlorine is monodentae. Each chlorine donates one electron pair. triphenyl phosphene is monodentate ligand. each triphenyl phosphene donate one electron pair to centarl metal atom
