Question

Preparations and Standardization of KMnO_4 Titrant: Obtain 10 mL of KMnO_4 stock solution in a graduated cylinder. Pour the 10 mL of KMnO_4 stock solution into large Erlenmeyer flask and add 250 mL D1 water. Mix thoroughly. This is your Standard KMnO_4 Titrant Solution which you must first standardize. Rinse and then fill a buret with this titrant solution. Weigh out about 1 g (or a little less) of ammonium iron(II) sulfate hexahydrate, (NH_4)2Fe(SO_4)2 6H_2O, and record the precise mass in your notebook. Transfer the compound to a clean 125 mL Erlenmeyer flask, add a magnetic stir bar, 25 mL of water and 25 mL of 3 M H_2SO_4 solution. Get the stir bar spinning and titrate the iron(II) solution with the KMnO4 solution. Record the volume used at the endpoint on your datasheet.

Explanation / Answer

Dear Friend use the formula M1V1/N1 = M2V2/N2

2 moles KMNO4 = 10 moles (NH4)2SO4 FeSO4.6H2O

Concentration of KMNO4 titrant in Run 1: 0.00037425654

Concentration of KMNO4 titrant in Run 2: 0.00037500655

Average Concentration of KMNO4 titrant : 0.00037463154

All the best.
