There are a number of symptoms that are common to acute bronchitis and pneumonia.Symptoms of acute broncitis usually subside within a couple of weeks but pneumonia is usually difficut to treat, especially in case of elderly patients.
Symptoms of acute bronchitis include dry cough followed by cough accompanied with mucus. There is usually no fever or mild fever. X ray usually shows a normal picture.It is usually cured in 2-3 weeks. In case of pneumonia the cough is usually accompanied with mucus. There is usually high grade fever seen in case of puemonia. Other symptoms include tachycardia, fast breathing and shivering .It usually takes more than 2-3 weeks to get cured.
There are several viruses and bacteria responsible for causing acute bronchitis.The most common viruses include adenovirus, rhinovirus, influenza type A and B. The most common bacteria include Streptococcus pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae,Haemophilus influenzae, Bordetella pertussis.The causative agents of pneumonia include Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis and rhinovirus.
