Question

Can somebody help me please?? I don't know how to explain this table. This are the "p" and "q" values and the chi-square values. This is from the population genetics, fruit fly lab. We used fruit flies and in the cross of F2 generations we selected against the sepia eye color. We were expecting the 3 to 1 ratio but the results did not gave us that ratio. F2 Wild Type Sepia observed expected deviation deviation squared (d2) d2/e 713 237 950 -64 64 4096 4096 5.7 173 950 7 17 22.7 F2 0.57 0.43 Chi-square value: F3 Wild Type Sepia observed expected deviation deviation squared (d2) d2/e 455 101 556 417 139 556 -38 38 1444 1444 3.5 10.4 13.9 F3 0.58 0.42 Chi-square value:

Explanation / Answer

Ans- the table include these-

Observed is the no of various phenotypes the F2 generation have.

Expected is the no of various phenotypes of f2 generation which were expected to be produced

.Deviation- it is no of expected- no of observed.

Deviation square is square of the deviation we got.

Chi square is the sum of deviation square divided by expected value.

P indicate the frequency of wild type or dominant gene while q indicate the frequency of mutant or recessive gene.
