Understanding Cultural Norms

The person I interviewed was from a Japanese background. Japan’s cultural norms can be understood through Hofstede’s Seven Dimensions of Culture. These include:

- Power Distance: Japan exhibits a high power distance, indicating a hierarchical society where respect for authority is enforced.

- Individualism vs. Collectivism: Japan is a collectivist society, emphasizing the importance of the group over the individual (Hofstede Insights, n.d.).
