FALL 2021 section 4 Project Overview Say it Right Sayitright is an application about identity. Your name carries culture and meaning to you. It is consider a microaggression when you allow somebody to mispronounce. I have serious difficulties pronouncing names and recognizing genders. In order to avoid this, we will develop a site to teach everyone how to pronounce every other’s name.

The Site has 3 main Components I) Management of My Profile a. Register your profile b. Register sound of name as it was taught to you II) Management of My school/work a. Register school/work, b. Register School courses c.

Register My classes III) Management of Integration of My profile & My school/Work a. Integrate schedule of classes b. Synchronize classes and Profile These three components are after login components. Site has a 1) Home Page, 2) Blog, 3) About Us, 4) Contact, 5) Register me, 6) Login.

Introduction


In today's increasingly diverse society, the importance of correct pronunciation of names cannot be overstated. Incorrectly pronouncing someone's name can lead to feelings of marginalization and disrespect, constituting a microaggression (Sue et al., 2007). To combat this issue, the "Say it Right" app aims to foster inclusivity by providing a platform for individuals to manage their identity through name pronunciation and integration with their academic or professional environments. This paper provides an overview of the project's primary components, including the management of personal profiles, school/work profiles, and the integration of both, along with the app's foundational features.

Project Components


1. Management of My Profile


The profile management feature is the cornerstone of the "Say it Right" app. It allows users to create a personalized account where they can document their name's pronunciation and other key elements of their identity.

a. Register Your Profile


The registration process will be straightforward, requiring users to input their names, preferred pronouns, and any other relevant identity markers. This will create a welcoming experience that respects individuals' identities right from the start (Ward et al., 2020).

b. Register Sound of Name


Users will have the option to upload an audio clip of their name pronunciation, ideally recorded in a supportive environment where they feel comfortable expressing their identity. This feature not only empowers users but also educates others on the correct way to pronounce their names (Serafini & McCarthy, 2019).

2. Management of My School/Work


This component helps individuals establish a connection between the app and their educational or professional settings.

a. Register School/Work


Users will be able to input basic details about their school or workplace, which will help in maintaining a cohesive network of connections. This will foster a sense of community as members learn about each other’s backgrounds (Phan, 2021).

b. Register School Courses


Users can list the courses or subjects they are enrolled in, enabling a more personalized experience when interacting with their peers or instructors.

c. Register My Classes


This feature allows users to directly input their class schedules, creating an opportunity for others to learn their names during classroom interactions.

3. Management of Integration of My Profile & My School/Work


The integration feature will allow for a seamless connection between users' personal profiles and their academic or professional schedules.

a. Integrate Schedule of Classes


By allowing users to synchronize their schedules, the app enables classmates and co-workers to access pronunciation clips during lunch breaks or casual meetups, significantly decreasing mispronunciation occurrences (Robinson, 2018).

b. Synchronize Classes and Profile


Through integration of profiles with class and work schedules, individuals will find it easier to connect with peers and instructors, engendering more meaningful relationships based on respect for each other's identities (Reeves, 2020).

Fundamental Features


The app will consist of several fundamental features, including:

1. Home Page


The Home Page will serve as the landing page for users, providing an intuitive and engaging user interface (UI) to access all the app's features. It fosters an inclusive atmosphere as users are welcomed into a space dedicated to identity and respect.

2. Blog


The blog feature will serve as a platform for users to share their stories, experiences, and tips related to name pronunciation, identity issues, and inclusivity. This not only drives community engagement but also educates others on the cultural significance of names (Millett, 2020).

3. About Us


The "About Us" section will inform users about the app’s mission, goals, and underlying philosophy, emphasizing the importance of empathy and cultural sensitivity (Betancourt et al., 2016).

4. Contact


The Contact feature will allow users to reach out to app developers for support, feedback, or inquiries. This will ensure users feel supported while navigating the platform.

5. Register Me


This section facilitates new users in registering for the application, ensuring ease of onboarding (Bishop, 2020).

6. Login


Returning users will be able to log in seamlessly, ensuring a user-friendly experience (Davis, 2020).

Conclusion


The Say it Right app represents a crucial initiative aimed at improving identity recognition and cultural respect in our diverse society. By simplifying the process of pronouncing names and fostering communication among individuals in academic and professional settings, the app ultimately hopes to eliminate the microaggression that comes from mispronunciation.
